A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in ward eleven, Oshimili South Local Governnent Area of Delta State, Engr. Smart Meka, on Friday, hosted a meeting of the ward in commemoration of Nigeria’s independence anniversary.

Meka, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, while addressing party faithful, said the meeting was convened to reflect on the state of the nation at 61 and discuss the way forward for the party ahead of the 2023 election.

He maintained that all was not well with the nation under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, citing insecurity and economic downturn as major reasons why the PDP should reclaim power at the center to fix the problems of the country, which the APC had failed to do.

The LGA Chairman of PDP, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, thanked Engr Meka for calling the meeting and urged party faithful to brace up to the task ahead of the 2023 election, particularly as it concerned the presidential seat.

Dada Okonji said the only way to get the country back to the right track was to vote out bad leadership which the APC had served Nigerians for the past six years, recalling that things were not as bad in the country when PDP was in control of power at the center.

He appealed to party leaders in the LGA to adequately sensitize the people on the need to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, pointing out that the Permanent Voter’s Card was all every party faithful needed to vote for credible, tested and trusted leaders which the PDP could boast of.

Others who spoke, including the ward Chairman, Hon. Afam Uzor, Alhaji Awolu Tukur, Alhaji Baba Haruna and Alhaji Muktar Usman, said there was no alternative to PDP in the ward and urged party members to take the voter registration exercise seriously in order to win more members to the party ahead of the 2023 election.
