Just as the echo of the Ughelli North Local Government Council’s intervention in the maintenance of the Agbarho government approved dumpsite is still in the air, the Ika North East Local Government has followed suit.
The Council, chaired by Hon Monday Odigwe, deployed heavy duty equipment to the Ika dumpsite in the Agbor-Abavo corridor of the Agbor-Abraka expressway to push back the expansive site.
The initiative, which was in collaboration with the Delta State Waste Management Board, was aimed at promoting cleanliness and healthy living in that region, especially with less than one week to the yuletide.
The Local Government boss, while speaking on the import of the exercise, said it was not the first time the Council was intervening in the dumpsite maintenance, attributing it to the proactiveness of the Waste Management Board through fruitful engagements with the Local Government.
Hon Odigwe assured that the Council would continue to intervene in environmental sanitation matters, adding that collaboration with the Board would be strengthened to ensure the realisation of the dream of a cleaner and healthier Agbor and by extension Delta State.
He emphasized that a clean environment was important to prevent the spread of diseases, pointing out that waste generated by residents of Agbor and the environs could only be effectively managed by evacuating and dumping them at the government approved location rather than on the streets or illegal dumpsites.
The member representing Delta North on the Board, Mr Cosmas Igbinijie, expressed appreciation to the Ika North East Council for working in support of the vision of the Oborevwori administration to have a cleaner and healthier state.
