Christian women in Delta State have been enjoined to continue to pray for God’s guidance, wisdom and direction for the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Obborevwori and other leaders at all levels of government.
The Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo; made the call when a delegation of the Women’s Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Delta State chapter, paid him a courtesy visit.
Hon Erijo noted that women were generally prayer warriors, interceding for their families and the society at large, urging them to always remember the state in their prayers so that the grace and mercy of God would remain sufficient for the people.
He added that women were also in the forefront of politics, hence the common saying: “No Woman, No Politics”, appreciating women in the state for their role and support before, during and after the 2023 election that brought in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and assuring them that the Governor would continue to deliver on his electioneering campaign promises.
The Chief of Staff said the present administration had remained committed to showing leadership through people-driven policies and programmes, as well as the provision of basic infrastructure that would make life more meaningful to the people across the three senatorial districts.
Hon Erijo urged the women to also increase support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose policies, which appeared harsh at the inception of his administration, were beginning to bring relief to the citizens, even at the local government level, with prospects of better days ahead.
He said the political realignment that necessitated the state being in the same camp with the Tinubu administration had increased the visibility of Delta State at the national level and aligned the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President with the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The Chief of Staff noted the requests of the delegation, including the allocation of more pilgrimage slots, employment opportunities, amongst others, and assured the women that government would look into them.
In an address presented on her behalf, the Chairperson of the Association, Dr. Anne Oghogho; said the visit was to familiarise the Chief of Staff with the spiritual mothers of the state, who were solidly behind the Governor and his administration in prayers and supplications to God.
Dr. Oghogho said the Association was happy with the gigantic projects, executed and ongoing, across the state, citing the flyovers in the Warri axis, Ughelli and Agbor, the Asaba-Ughelli dual carriageway, amongst others, all of which were to the credit of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in just two years in office.
While pledging the continued support of the women, she appealed to the state government to allocate more pilgrimage slots to the group, provide employment opportunities for its qualified members, among other needs.
