SECURITY: Police in Delta, Bankers’ Forum Brainstorm Ahead of the Yuletide

The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has convened a strategic security meeting with members of the Delta State Bankers’ Forum to discuss the increased influx of people into the state and the likely increase in criminal activities in the Ember months.

The meeting, which focused on addressing the security of banks ahead of the fast approaching yuletide, was attended by the Chief security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Asaba, and thirty nine head of banks across the State.  

The CP, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that it was important for bankers to take adequate security measures to checkmate the activities of criminals who might want to take advantage of the festive period. 

He said considering the fact that the Command and Asaba were bounded by the East, Edo and other parts of the country, it was important for security strategies to be reviewed. 

CP Abaniwonda advised that the installation of advanced and functional CCTV cameras in the banking environment was very important to support the effort of the police in monitoring happenings in the banking environment. 

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to the fight against crime and criminality in the state, noting that the meeting was part of the proactive measures being taken by the Command to ensure a crime free Ember months.

The Chief Security Officer, Central Bank of Nigeria, Asaba, Mrs Evangeline Patrick, commended the Command for the initiative and stated that they had not been releasing cash to banks without adequate number of policemen on specie escort.
