The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State has held a congress to elect a new executive, with Mr. Chike Ifesiokwu emerging as the LGA Party Chairman, alongside Mr. Chinedu Obodo as Vice Chairman and 16 others
The congress was supervised by security agents, PDP officials the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) represented by Mr. Omorgbe Michael and Mrs. Orawo Justina.
Speaking at the end of the exercise held in Asaba the weekend, the immediate past Chairman, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, who touted his tenure as a success, expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly elected officials to do better.
Ogbueshi Okonji noted that the new executive could hardly do it all alone and called for moral and financial support of party faithful for them.
“During my tenure, we did well. We produced two PDP Governors, members of the House of Assembly and 20 Councilors in all the elections held.
“We hope and are assured that the incumbent executive will do more to push forward the party in the LGA and the state in general”, he said.
Okonji congratulated the newly elected Chairman and his team, emphasizing the need for robust financial backing to enable the new executive to built on the party’s achievements and drive growth in the Local Government Area.

In his words: “To ensure the continued success of the party in the LGA, it is imperative that the Chairman receives enhanced financial support, surpassing the level I received during my tenure.
“During my time, I incurred significant personal expenses to drive the party’s progress, but this may not be sustainable in the current tenure. The Party Chairman requires a strong support system, and with adequate resources, I am confident that the new executive will succeed.
“The rapid urbanization of Oshimili South underscores the urgency of this support, as its absence will create a critical gap in the party’s ability to effectively serve the community”.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin, Uzor, lauded the peaceful atmosphere of the election expressing optimism that the new executive members would justify the confidence reposed in them.
Earlier in his acceptance speech, the new LGA Party Chairman, Mr. Chike Ifesiokwu, thanked members across the wards in Oshimili South for the confidence reposed in him and other officials, promising to take PDP in the area to greater heights.
He commended the immediate past executive, led by Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, for the great strides recorded by the party in the LGA, urging elders, leaders and the entire membership of the party to extent the same level of support given to the past executive to him and members of his team.
The congress was attended by party stalwarts, including the House of Assembly member, Hon Bridget Anyafulu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin, Uzor, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili, the Chairman of Rural Development Agency (RDA), Engr Meka, among others.
