The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development and security through major policy initiatives ahead of the 2025 fiscal year.

This it has done with the approval of an increase in rural road funding from ₦1.billion per local government area in 2024 to ₦2.1 billion in 2025, with a further rise to ₦5 billion projected for 2026, a move that underscores his administration’s commitment to enhancing rural connectivity and boosting economic productivity.

The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu; who disclosed this, said focus was to ensure that every community, regardless of size or population, enjoyed access to basic infrastructure, adding that the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori believed that development must be balanced and far-reaching.

He also clarified the Oborevwori administration’s approach to debt repayment and fiscal responsibility, pointing out that despite settling DESOPADEC’s ₦8.4 billion inherited contractual obligations, the government had maintained strong financial health through disciplined project management and prompt contractor payments.

“In addition, the State Security Trust Fund has been launched to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies through private sector participation and inter-agency cooperation.

“The initiative aims to strengthen logistics, communication, and mobility, ensuring a safer and more secure Delta.

“Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution makes the security and welfare of citizens the government’s top priority. This Fund ensures we meet that constitutional responsibility efficiently”, the Commissioner noted.

These efforts, according to him, “align with the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda and thematic policy framework, which place Meaningful Development as the foremost priority of governance”.
