The Oshimili South Local Government has promised to continue to invest in infrastructure that will be compatible with the fast growing status of Asaba, the state capital, and other parts of the LGA.
The Chairman of the Local Government, Hon Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, made the promise on Tuesday during the commissioning of the ultra modern Ogbeogonogo shopping complex.
Dr. Ezenyili said infrastructural development remained a key policy of his administration and had prompted the provision of modern structures across the entire Local Government Area.
He recalled that the old burnt market, in whose place the shopping complex was built, was a historic market to the people of Asaba, dating back to time immemorial, pointing out that dilapidated nature of the old market led to its being gutted by fire twice, causing hardship to traders and buyers who lost their valuables and resorted to open trading.
“Permit me to state that despite the construction of the New Ogbeogonogo market there were still insufficient shops to cater for the overwhelming number of displaced traders and coupled with the dilapidated state of the engulfed area, there was then a need to rehabilitate and provide befitting shops to accommodate these traders.
“Today, we are here to witness the commissioning of the Ultra-Modern Ogbeogonogo Shopping Complex, which was constructed through Public Private Partnership (PPP) in collaboration with DADA GLOBAL RESOURCES, an indigenous Contractor of Asaba descent.
“Let me state here that the Contractor is one to be reckoned with as he proved his mettle by completing the project within the time frame. Kudos sir!
“I wish to express my most profound appreciation to the Special Guest of Honour, HRM, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge SAN, the 14th Asagba of Asaba, who has availed his versed wealth of knowledge to this administration and the entire Asaba people, through collaboration in the war against social vices and renewed vision of a new Asaba.
“Let me also appreciate the good people of Asaba for reposing their trust in this administration. I want to assure you all that we will continue to align with the MORE AGENDA of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori and that I will not relent in fulfilling the electoral promises made to the people of Oshimili South Local Government Area”, the Ikemba Ahaba stated.
In his remarks before commissioning the Complex, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, praised the developmental strides of the Oshimili South Local Government under the watch of Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili.
The highly revered traditional ruler said the construction of the Complex aligned with his vision of branding Asaba, stressing that the Council was working in line with the role of the third tier of government, as spelt out in section 7 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as altered.
He added that the Council had demonstrated capacity to live up to its responsibility, and specially thanked the Chairman for involving an Asaba son, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, in the partnership that saw the project to fruition, while commending him for delivering a quality job.
Asagba Prof Azinge urged Dr. Ezenyili to consider building the Asaba International Market to decongest the Ogbeogonogo market, just as he made a case for Asaba people to be allocated shops in the new shopping complex.
Earlier, the Private Partner and Chairman, Dada Global Resources, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, thanked the Oshimili South Local Government for finding his firm worthy of the partnership, adding that the Shopping Complex was one of the good things happening under the reign of Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge.
