Obi Nwanyi Monu-Oduah Bags Peace Ambassador, Advocate for Gender Equality Award

A renowned Advocate for gender equality and President, Asaba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, (ASACCIMA) Hon Chief Chinwe Monu-Oduah Esq, has been conferred with the award of Peace Ambassador and Advocate for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.

The honor was bestowed on her by the United Nations Women Coordination Mechanism Platform during its Annual Gender-Based Violence, Gender Equality and Women Empowerment conference, which took place in Asaba.

According to the Convener, Ambassador Eris Jewo-Ibi, Obi Nwanyi Chinwe Monu-Oduah was considered considered for the award for her interest in and support for gender equality and women empowerment both in private and public life.

Ambassador Jewo-Ibi noted that the former member of the Delta State House of Assembly had used her Foundation to promote girl-child education through the award of scholarships to deserving indigent but brilliant students across the 36 states in the country.

She added that Chief Monu-Oduah also used her position as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry to assist women from across the state to grow their trades with soft loans and to build their capacity through seminars and workshops.

The Convener congratulated the recipient and urged her to continue to champion the cause of women and the girl-child in order to give them the pride of place in the contemporary society.

Responding after receiving the award, Obi Nwanyi Monu-Oduah thanked the platform for the honor, which she said would spur her to commit more to the cause of women and the girl-child.

She urged women in the state, and indeed the country, not to allow themselves to be relegated to the background, insisting that they should look out for opportunities and explore the potentials in them to be able take their rightful place in the scheme of things.
