Appointees of the Delta State Government have been charged to reason beyond their immediate portfolios to see how they can add value to the governance of the state.

The Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo gave the charge when a team of Special Assistants to the Governor paid him a courtesy visit.

Hon Erijo noted that appointees should not only focus on the duties of their portfolios, but should also come up with ideas and proposals that could help to improve governance and the general well-being of the people.

He reiterated that the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori administration was designed to impact positively on every part of the state, adding that the government would stop at nothing to ensure that Deltans benefitted immensely from the policies and programmes of the state government.

The Chief of Staff commended the Special Assistants for coming up with a proposal for the sensitization of the public on the need to not only say something when they see something, but to do so the right way.

Hon Erijo emphasized that while security remained everyone’s business, the indiscriminate sharing of security-related information on social media platforms, which the sensitization programme aimed to discourage, had not helped matters, as they tended to undermine security.

He thanked the Special Assistants for the proposal, and pledged his support, even as he urged them to also reach out to other relevant authorities to enhance the chances of the proposal pulling through.

Earlier in an address, the leader of the team and Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Tomi Wajuola, said they visited as concerned Deltans who deeply valued the peace and security of the state.

Comrade Wajuola said in their collective efforts to enhance peace and security across the state, as enshrined in the MORE agenda, it had become expedient to address the growing concern of circulating security-related information on social media platforms, as that had inadvertantly jeopardized investigation, endangered life and created unnecessary panic.

He stated that they were formally introducing a community-based security sensitization and awareness campaign tagged: “See Something, Say Something, Say it the Right Way”, and solicited the Chief of Staff’s support for the proposal.
