The Delta State Waste Management Board has said nothing, not even the rains, will stop it from carrying on with the routine evacuation of waste in Asaba, the state capital.

The Chairman of the Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, who made the declaration in an interview with our reporter, said the growing status of the state capital needed to be complemented with a clean and healthy environment.

Hon Edema said men and materials would continue to be mobilized to the field to evacuate indiscriminately dumped waste and pick up litters from strategic roads, junctions and median strips in the State Capital Territory and other urban towns and cities of the state.

He noted that though there had been a significant improvement in environmental sanitation across the towns and cities due to the Board’s aggressive sensitization campaign, the trajectory would be sustained to ensure a cleaner Delta.

The Board Chairman commended the field operations staff for their dedication to duty and reiterated the need for residents to adopt environmental best practices, especially in waste management, stressing that registering with Waste Managers, also known as Private Sector Participants (PSPs), remained mandatory for all urban dwellers in the state.

Meanwhile, staff of the Board on Saturday evacuated waste on the Asaba/Benin expressway, Asaba/Ibusa expressway median strips, as well as removed illegal dumps on Okpanam road
