The death has occured of an American professional wrestler, Terry Gene Bollea, better known by his ring name ‘Hulk Hogan’.
He was reportedly pronounced dead on Thursday in the hospital where he was rushed to after he suffered cardiac arrest.
He was best known for his work with WWE and World Championship Wrestling, and for his flamboyance and massive physique, as well as his trademark blond horseshoe moustache and bandanas
Hogan was widely regarded as the most recognized wrestling star worldwide, the most popular wrestler of the 1980s and one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, who helped to elevate US wrestling to a global phenomenon with his flair and bravado.
The late American sport and entertainment star, who was a universal symbol of WWE during his active days, was twice inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and was never shy about his icon status, calling himself as the “Babe Ruth” of wrestling in a reference to the US baseball phenom who became synonymous with the sport.
Hogan also attracted controversy when a recording emerged of him using an anti-Black racial slur, for which he was suspended by WWE in 2015 and later reinstated in 2018.
He is survived by his third wife, Sky Daily, who he married in September 2023, and two adult children Brooke and Nick, from his 26-year marriage to Linda Hogan, which ended in 2009.
