Poor funding has been blamed for the operational deficiency of most government establishments in the country.

This was the view expressed by the Asagba of Asaba, HRM, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, while playing host to the management team of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA Channel 11, Asaba, during a courtesy visit in his palace.

Asagba Prof Azinge noted that abandoning government establishments to their fate by starving them of funds, which he said needed to be addressed, had resulted in lack of operational equipment for optimal performance, identifying NTA Asaba as a victim of the ugly trend.

His Royal Majesty, while thanking the management team, led by the new General Manager of the station, Madam Christy Badung, for the visit, said NTA Asaba had not only played the role of a government megaphone, but had also tried to maintain balance in the analysis and reportage of contemporary issues.

The highly esteemed traditional ruler lauded the station for the much it had done in projecting the image, custom and traditions of Asaba, as well as the developmental trajectory of the community, and thanked the management for dedicating a correspondent to the coverage of the palace.

He pledged to donate three cameras to the station, with a promise to engage the government on other challenges of the establishment, and charged the broadcast media outfit to develop contents that would appeal to the sensibilities of the younger generation in order to engender moral rejuvenation for the greater good of the society.

“We detest the fact that drug abuse and Cybercrime (yahoo yahoo) are ravaging our youths, which we have been trying to battle on our own, but I believe that your outfit can also be useful to us, by building programs around these issues so that they can be groomed and nurtured on the right path”, the Asagba said.

HRM described his relationship with the NTA, where he had featured for about 30 years on many burning issues, as mutually beneficial and developmental.

Earlier, the General Manager of NTA, Asaba, Madam Christy Badung, rejoiced with Asagba Prof Azinge on his ascension to the throne as the 14th Asagba of Asaba and informed him that she assumed duty in January 2025 during his coronation celebrations.

Madam Badung expressed optimism that the Asagba would lead Asaba to a glorious height with his pedigree, influence and connection, and promised to continue to work in synergy with the palace in promoting and showcasing the rich cultural heritage, development and economic progress recorded within Asaba.

While describing His Majesty’s leadership style, tenacity and commitment to promoting peace, unity and development in Asaba as inspiring and unprecedented, the GM thanked him for the band set he donated to the station for their fellowship and pleaded for intervention in having the outfit connected to the state’s independent power plant and shortage of operational equipment such as vehicles, cameras and editing machines.
