INDEPENDENCE: YCN Urges Nigeria Youth Not To Despair

As Nigeria turns 61 as an independent nation, the youth have been reminded of the need to strive to ensure that things work in the country to guarantee their future.

A youth body, the Young Citizens of Nigeria, YCN, made the remark in a message to commemorate the country’s 2021 Independence anniversary.

YCN, in the message issued by the Acting Chairman of the Delta chapter of the group, Comrade Ekene Okonkwo, noted that Nigeria had passed through the thick and thin of nationhood since independence with nothing particularly good for the youth to be happy about.

The group noted that the future looked bleak for Nigerian youth, with no hope of employment after graduation, political oppression and high handedness of the leaders, situations it said had forced many youths into crimes and social vices.

YCN, however, encouraged the youth not to despair, urging them to brace up to the challenges facing them with vigor, be politically active even in the face of oppression, speak up against evil and bad leadership and be genuinely supportive of good and selfless leaders.

It used the opportunity to commend Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for his administration’s youth development policies and programmes, which had made the beneficiaries self reliant and employers of labour.
