A Non Governmental Organization, the Monu Olarewaju Foundation (MOF) has donation over 200 books on different subjects to the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, in commemoration of the 6th anniversary of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Presenting the books to the school authority, the Founder of the Monu Olarewaju Foundation, Hon (Barr) Chinwe Monu-Olarewaju, said the gesture was in appreciation of the impact of the SDGs on humanity, which was in tandem with the vision of the Foundation.

Hon Olarewaju stated that the presence of her Foundation had been felt in the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, with focus on sustainable development, promotion of gender equality, capacity building, social mobilization, skills development/empowerment, and advocacy, especially as they concerned the girl child.

The former Legislator and Commissioner said as a Deltan who had served humanity in different capacities, and also a United Nations ambassador, she saw the need to use the SDGs 6th anniversary celebration as an avenue to contribute to the development of education, pointing out that she had made a similar donation to the Faculty of Law, Delta State University, Abraka.

While decrying the decline of the reading culture in the present day Nigeria, the MOF Initiator sued for a paradigm shift in the attitude of the younger generation to reading, insisting that people must read books in order to get exposed to knowledge, ‘which is power’.

Receiving the books, the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, Dr. Josephine Okeakwa, thanked Hon Olarewaju and her Foundation for their numerous contributions to the development of the society.

Dr. Okeakwa, who was represented by the Deputy Provost of the Institution, Mr. N. Idika, pledged to partner with the Monu Olarewaju Foundation in any area that would advance the cause of the organisation, assuring that the books would be put to good use.

Principal Officers of the College, including the Registrar, Alhaji R. M. F. Adepoju; the Librarian, Dr. Joy Otubelu; Bursar, Mr. Joseph Osakwe; and the Director of Works and Services, Engr. Ibafidon, witnessed the event.
