Delta Non indigenes living in Delta State have been urged to avail themselves of the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration exercise across the state.

Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Non Indigenes Affairs, Barr. Emeka Ebiliekwe; made the call while speaking on the import of the recent sensitisation and advocacy programme organised by INEC, in collaboration with the Delta State Government, which focused on the registration exercise.

Barr. Ebiliekwe said the programme, which provided a platform for the review of the first phase performance of the exercise and highlighted the need for stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the second phase, was not only timely but necessary.

He noted that the revelation of far-below expectation figures from the first phase of the registration exercise was disturbing and called for greater commitment and active participation of eligible persons to make the second phase more successful.

The EA, therefore, appealed to all non indigenes who had yet to register to do so, reminded them that voter registration was key to participating in and laying the foundation of a credible and inclusive electoral process.

Barr. Ebiliekwe added that citizens’ participation through voter registration was fundamental to good governance, expressing delight in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s assurance of an enabling environment for INEC to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities.

“I urge all non indigenes in Delta State who are first-time voters, those who missed earlier registrations, those seeking correction of personal details, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and those wishing to transfer their registration, to visit any registration centre nearest to them.

“Remember that if you fail to exercise your civic responsibility of voting, which is only possible with your PVC, you lack the moral right to complain about governance outcomes. For us, we are lucky to have a working Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Obborevwori; and we owe it a duty to re-elect him in 2027 so that we can continue to enjoy the inclusiveness and hospitality of his administration through the MORE agenda”, the EA said.
