The traditional ruler of Asaba Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON; has said the biggest industry in his community, which cannot be toyed with, is peace.

Asagba Prof Azinge made the remark on Thursday when the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, paid him a courtesy visit.

The Monarch identified security as key to peace, which explained why Asaba was doing everything possible to strengthen internal security and support the conventional security architecture to protect lives and property within its domain.

He told the CP that the Asaba Community Police Relations Committee, headed by Odogwu Ahaba, was in place to coordinate security related matters, while all the Satellite Towns had their active vigilante groups to ensure there was no threat to peace and security in the community.

The Asagba added that a security trust fund was recently launched to pool resources for logistics support to the Asaba Community Police, pointing out that a Committee had been constituted to oversee the ‘Operation Know Your Tenant’, designed to know the true identity of people living in the town, especially the non indigenes.

His Royal Majesty acknowledged the great role of the Police and other security agencies in curbing crime and criminality in the society, stressing that the efforts of the Asaba community were complementary and did not in any way suggest an underestimation of the strength of strategies of the security architecture.

Asagba Prof Azinge called on the CP to look into Police involvement in land related disputes which, in the recent past, led to the arrest, detention and prosecution of some Asaba sons, some of whom were either awaiting trial or serving jail terms at the Ogwashi-Uku Custodial facility, on framed up charge of attempted murder.

He also urged the CP to find a way to bring cultism and yahoo yahoo in Asaba under control, pledging the continued support of the Palace for the Police and other security agencies.

CP Aina Adesola had, earlier in his remarks, said he was in the Palace to inform the Asagba of his deployment to Delta State, where he earlier served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, and to seek his royal blessings.

He reaffirmed the readiness of the Delta State Police Command to frontally fight crime and criminality in the state, assuring the Monarch that Asaba would continue to be in the priority list of the Command.

The CP commended Asagba Prof Azinge for his interest in the peace and security of his kingdom, urging him not to relent.
