The Asagba-in-Council, presided over by the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON; rose from its weekly meetings on Sunday with a kick against the rumoured plan to replace Asaba as the capital of the proposed Anioma State.

Briefing newsmen on the issue, the Ubilikankwu of Asaba, Prof Leroy Edozien; said the rumour was rife in the social media and should not be ignored because there could be some elements of truth in it.
The Palace Chief noted that the 13th Asagba of Asaba, late Prof Chike Edozien and some prominent Asaba sons, living and dead, had, at some points in time, championed the Anioma cause, wondering why anyone should contemplate relegating Asaba to the background in the renewed agitation for the creation of the state.

He said as the Delta State capital, Asaba had been peaceful and progressive to both the government and residents, including the non indigenes, and would continue in that stead as the capital of the proposed Anioma State.
Prof Edozien declared that Asaba, as a community, would resist any attempt to pick another capital for the proposed Anioma State, and warned those behind the alleged plan to retrace their steps in the interest of peace.

He urged the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Obborevwori and other leaders in the state to investigate the rumour and intervene accordingly to avoid palpable tension and chaos.
