Enyi Ogbueshi Taju Isichei Celebrates New Yam Festival

It was celebration galore at the GRA phase 5, Asaba, residence of a grassroots politician, Enyi and Alor title holder, as well as Executive Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, Hon Ogbueshi Taju Isichei, popularly called IKUKU, on Tuesday, pulled crowd to his new yam festival.

Dressed in a sparkling traditional Akwa Ocha – designed outfit, with the right beeded maternal round his neck, and a cap to match, Ogbueshi Isichei danced to be celebration ground, where members of his Ajaji village, led by Diokpa Thomas Eyinabo, political associates, members of the landlord and tenants association of his residential area and fellow EAs to the Governor were seated waiting for the show to kick off.

Also on ground were some other Ogbueshis, members of Otu Odu and Okike Asaba, amongst others.

He proudly picked up a knife, grabbed the roasted tuber of yam in a tray, prayed over it, cut, sliced and ate of it with a native delicacy prepared with palm oil, after which the tray was passed round for others to have a taste of the new yam.

Members of his wonderful immediate family were around to give him the needed support, while the kitchen was inexhaustible with pounded yam and banga soup, and the bar with assorted drinks, including original palm wine.

Speaking to newsmen in the heat of the festival, Ogbueshi Isichei thanked God for the gift of life to witness another new yam festival, and appreciated all who honored his invitation to the ceremony.

He specially thanked the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, who had earlier celebrated his “Iwa Ji”, for his focused and purposeful leadership, which had changed many narratives about Asaba, giving the community renewed hope of attaining greater heights in no distant future.

The political tactician, who is the Chairman, College of EAs to Oborevwori, used the opportunity to express appreciation to the Governor for his respect for Asagba Prof Azinge, demonstrated in his physical presence to personally hand over the Staff of Office to the Monarch on November 28, 2024.

Ogbueshi Isichei prayed for a good harvest of yams from his farm next year, and for the continued peace, security and development in Asaba.
