The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, has advocated exchange visits by traditional rulers in the state to engender interactions and cooperation between them.
The Asagba, who made the remark while playing host to the Igwe of Abala kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi Fredrick Egbumnkonye, who visited him, said such visitations would go a long way to cementing the relationship and bond of friendship between the monarchs.
He noted that Asaba and Abala people shared a lot in common, and had coexisted over time, with testimonies of healthy relationships and blessings from Abala people living in Asaba.
The Asaba monarch emphasised that peace and security would remain uppermost in his agenda because nothing meaningful could be achieved without them, attributing the fast growing status of Asaba to the peace in the land.
His Royal Majesty said inter-community security collaboration was also important and would continue to be encouraged, pointing out that the police were now working closely with local vigilante groups to curb insecurity in the state.
Asagba Prof Azinge touched on the recent meeting of Aniocha/Oshimili traditional rulers in Asaba, explaining that the whole essence was to create a platform for closer relationship and exchange of ideas that would help promote the sociocultural well-being of the respective kingdoms.
He thanked Obi Egbumnkonye for the visit and assured him that it would be reciprocated at the appropriate time.
Earlier in his remarks, the Abala King said he considered Asaba to be a home for him and many of his subjects and had come to greet the Asagba for the peace and security being enjoyed by residents of Asaba, including many Abala sons and daughters either working or doing business in the town.
Obi Egbumnkonye said he was happy with the progress Asagba Prof Azinge had made since ascending the throne and assured him that Abala people resident in his kingdom would remain supportive of his reign and respect the culture and tradition of the land.
