Sons of Asaba, young and old, have been urged to participate actively in the June 28 Igba Mkpisi of the community in their respective quarters.

His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, FNIALS, made the call on Sunday when he visited the five quarters, also know as Ebos, at their respective meeting venues to sensitize them on the upcoming event.

Asagba Prof Azinge said the ceremony had been reduced from 40 years interval to 10 years, emphasizing that participation was mandatory for every son of Asaba, and was a condition precedent for taking the Alor title.

He maintained that anyone with the intension of taking the Alor title who failed to participate in this year’s ceremony would have to wait for the next 10 years to participate and be eligible for the title.

The Asagba said the cultural event would no longer be business as usual, stressing that some of the practices that characterized the ceremony in the past, including staggered celebration by the various quarters, had been abolished to make way for a joint event and affirm the seriousness attached to it.

The First Class traditional ruler promised to continue to roll out reforms that would redefine the culture and tradition of the land and urged sons and daughters of the community to prioritize the promotion, preservation and defence of their cultural identity.

The Asagba pledged to donate a cow each to the five Ebos, namely Umuezei, Umuaji, Ugbomanta, Umuonaje and Umuagu, in support of their preparations for the ceremony.
