In its avowed resolve to maintain a clean and green environment, officials of the Delta State Waste Management Board on Saturday carried out its routine waste evacuation on the ever busy Asaba -Benin expressway.

The team was at different strategic locations on the highway, including the trailer park, opposite the Asaba airport, and other adjoining roads from where indiscriminately dumped waste were cleared.

The waste evacuation exercise, which was carried out on the directive of the Board Chairman, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, under the supervision of Mr Stephen Uwanabi, was aimed at ensuring that the State Capital Territory, remained clean.

In an interview with Journalists, Mr Uwanabi maintained that the Chairman of the Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, was committed to regulating the disposal of waste across the state, in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, insisting that the Chairman’s determination to lead the Board to success was not negotiable.

He urged residents of the state to continue to collaborate with the Board by ensuring proper waste management, tasking them to always engage the services of Private Sector Participants, (PSPs) for prompt and coordinated disposal of their waste.

The Supervisor said indiscriminate dumping of refuse in any part of the state was highly prohibited because it defaced the environment, pointing out that the routine focus on the highway was to ensure that the gateway to the State Capital was clean at all times so as not to portray the state in bad light.

“As a Board saddled with the responsibility of waste management in Delta State, we are not resting on our oars in that regard. This is because we are working in line with the MORE Agenda of our amiable Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

“We are also using this opportunity to appeal to residents of the state to engage the services of PSPs for proper waste management rather than disposing waste indiscriminately because anyone caught will face the wrath of the law”, he said.
