The Delta State chapter of the Action Alliance (AA) on Sunday conducted its governorship primary election with the emergence of a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Jenkins Duvie Gwede, as the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 governorship election.

Two delegates from each of the 25 local government areas of the state were expected to participate in the primary, but 47 were accredited, while 24 voted, using option A4.

Hon. Gwede polled 18 votes to defeat his only rival, Mr Awele Iloh, who garnered 6 votes, and was declared winner by the Chairman of the Electoral Panel and Returning Officer for the election, Comrade Patrick Bieni.

While presenting the party’s flag to the winner, the State Chairman of the party, Emeka Bidokwu, said the contest was a family affair, urging party members to rally round the flag bearer to enable him secure victory in the governorship election.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Gwede thanked the delegates for voting for him and assured them that he would lead the party to victory in the Delta State governorship election.

The exercise, which was peaceful and orderly, was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security operatives.
