The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Housing, Women Affairs and Community Development, has pledged sustainable partnership with the Ministry, Departments and Agencies, MDAs under its overnight supervision.
The Chairman of the Committee and member representing Isoko North Constituency, Hon Jude Ogbimi, made the pledge when he led members of the Committee on a familiarization visit to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Development and the Delta Development Property Authority, DDPA.

Hon Ogbimi said the synergy between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in the state was commendable and had promoted peace, economic and Infrastructural growth in the state.
He stated that the familiarization visit was informed by his Committee’s desire to leverage on the existing good working relationship between the State Legislature and the Executive and called for the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders.

The Lawmaker said the Committee was determined to perform its constitutional role of supporting the MDAs in budgeting provision, oversight and other relevant functions that would promote good governance in the state.
Hon Ogbimi, who was recently assigned the Chairmanship of the House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs and Community Development by the leadership of the House, maintained that all critical stakeholders must play their respective roles in effective implementation of government policies and programs.

At the headquarters of the DDPA, the Committee Chairman commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for building and completing a magnificent world class new secretariat building project in Asaba to provide a conducive working environment for civil servants in the state.
He urged the agency to be accountable and seek increased partnership with the private sector for mass housing development in the state, as the government could hardly do it alone due to limited resources.

The General Manager DDPA, Mr Charles Esiovwa, commended the Lawmakers for the visit which he said created opportunity to seek more support from the State Legislature in addressing the funding and other challenges facing the agency, including land encroachment.
Mr Esiovwa congratulated Hon Ogbimi on his choice as the Chairman of the Committee, adding that with better funding the agency was determined to provide more houses for Deltans.
The Committee Chairman and members were received at the headquarters of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Development by the Commissioner, Mrs Flora Alanta.

Hon Ogbimi informed officials of the Ministry of the commitment of the State Assembly to supporting programs geared towards youth and women empowerment in the state.
He urged them to always bring their areas of need to the attention of the Committee, saying that members would offer assistance when necessary in addressing any challenge faced by the Ministry.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Community and Social Development, Mrs Flora Alanta said the ministry was saddled with many responsibilities, including support for physically challenge persons, creche development, widows, orphanages, people living with leprosy and empowerment of women.
She thanked the Committee for the visit and solicited support in moving the Ministry forward.
