Former Nigeria international footballer star, Sam Sodje; has been inducted into the Brentford Football Club League of Legends, in recognition of his outstanding service and lasting impact on the club.
The top notch English side, in an official statement, said Sodje was considered for the honour not only for his impressive contributions during his playing career, but also for his continued commitment to the growth of the club since retiring from active football.
The club noted that Sodje made 100 appearances for it, scoring 14 goals, and played a key role in the team during his time in England.
Beyond his on-field achievements, the club praised Sodje for his wider influence on Brentford’s growth and global profile, adding that his move from Brentford to Reading FC in the English Premier League, coupled with his call-up to the Nigeria national team, the Super Eagles, helped to raise the club’s profile internationally.
Brentford stated that this visibility made the club more attractive to players of African origin and significantly boosted its popularity across the African continent, particularly in Nigeria.
The club also commended Sodje for continuing to uphold its strong values through his post-football work, stressing that hrough his “Life After Sports” initiative, Sodje had remained active in supporting and advocating for retired sportsmen and women in Nigeria and around the world, further reflecting the club’s positive working ethics.
It expressed special pride in Sodje for remaining a respected figure in the football community long after hanging up his boots, adding that it would continue to offer him the same support extended to other retired Brentford players in his future ventures.
