Associations of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture in the South South geo-political zone have been urged to focus on building business communities in the coming year.
The newly elected Regional Vice President of the Coalition of South South Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (COSSCCIMA) Hon Chief Chinwe Monu Esq; made the call in Benin City, Edo State, in her remarks after receiving the Certificate of Return.
Hon Chief Monu, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, who secured the position in her capacity as the President of the Asaba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ASACCIMA), said such communities were needed to expand membership of the Associations and give them immense values.
The one-time Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Delta State noted that there were so many small and medium business owners, as well as enterprising youths in the South South region that should be embraced by the Associations to facilitate the growth of their businesses.
She added that the idea of the business communities would also promote grassroots participation, as the Associations were not meant to be elitist, draw the Associations closer to government, boost their bargaining power as critical stakeholders in the economy.
The COSSCCIMA Regional Vice President, who was also a former Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council of Delta State, promised to bring her vast experience in the field at the national, state and grassroots levels to bear in the leadership of organisation.
Hon Chief Monu solicited the support and cooperation of members of the Coalition executive, the six State Chambers, and all the City Chambers in the South South region in taking the organisation to enviable heights, even as she promised to roll out programmes that would significantly enhance the visibility and impact of the group.
