A prominent traditional ruler in Delta state and 14th Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, FNIALS; has pledged the readiness of his community to welcome initiatives that will make it a technology hub.
The First Class Monarch made the pledge when a delegation of the Board and Management of Disc Media and Telecommunications Limited (DMT), visited him in his palace.
He expressed delight at the calibre of persons at the helm of affairs of the organisation, pointing out that he had always been confident associating with any endeavour involving the Board Chairman, Andrew Odum, SAN; while describing the Managing Director, Harold Monu; as an illustrious son of Asaba whose think-home spirit was second to none and highly commendable.
The Asagba said the initiative was not unexpected and he was happy that the team was bringing innovation and technological development home to the Kingdom under his watch, promising that the investment would not be taken for granted.
The highly revered traditional ruler said: “A grand idea, no doubt about it. Occasionally we read about these things and we believe that they are so far-fetched, but to think that you are bringing them home is not something we can gloss over like that. I want to continue to commend you.
“You have well enumerated the amazing benefits that will flow from what you propose to do in terms of job opportunities, skill acquisition, among so many other things. I have always dreamt of Asaba becoming a technology hub of a sort. We’ve tried to work with Committees and individuals, but we’ve not been able to find the right approach to adopt, and it would appear that you are bringing that home”.
Asagba Prof Azinge drew the attention of the DMT team to a digital bridge initiated some years back when he was the PG of the Asaba Development Union Worldwide, but currently in a state of decay, and urged the organisation to explore the possibility of harnessing the resources and potentials, with a view to putting the digital bridge to use, so as to fast track the process of making Asaba the envisioned technology hub.
His Royal Majesty bestowed his royal blessings on the company and pledged his support for its operations and growth in Asaba and beyond.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr Harold Monu, said the visit was part of the company’s commitment to community engagement and respectful collaboration with the traditional institution.
He expressed deep appreciation to His Royal Majesty for the warm reception and reaffirmed the company’s resolve to contribute positively to the socioeconomic and digital development of Asaba Kingdom and Delta State at large.
Mr Monu, who is DMT’s Managing Director, highlighted the company’s vision, mission, and strategic plans, emphasizing the organisation’s respect for the customs, traditions, values and leadership of Asaba Kingdom, as well as its desire to operate in harmony with the host community.
Also on the entourage were Mrs. Uche Monu, Engr. Kolawole Sobola, and Engr. Frank Nwaebo.
