The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge SAN OON; has formally announced the readiness of his Palace for the December 6 maiden edition of the Asaba International Road Race.
Briefing newsmen on Wednesday, Asagba Prof Azinge reaffirmed the full support of the Palace for race billed to be flagged off at the prestigious Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
His Royal Majesty expressed profound pride in the event, describing it as a cultural, athletic, and unifying symbol that would reflect the spirit and hospitality of the Asaba people.
He added that the race would position the city of Asaba as one of Nigeria’s emerging centres for sports tourism, youth development, and international athletic participation.
The forward-thinking Monarch commended the organisers for their dedication, vision and commitment to excellence, noting that the event would not only promote healthy living and global sportsmanship but also boost local commerce, inspire young athletes, and strengthen Asaba’s standing on the global athletics map.
The Asagba called on all residents, youths, institutions, and stakeholders in Asaba to show their full support, ensure a peaceful environment, and extend the traditional Asaba warmth to visiting athletes from across Nigeria, Africa, and the world.
He expressed the belief that the 2025 edition would turn out to be the most successful yet and encouraged all participants to compete with honour, discipline, and respect.
His Royal Majesty said he and the entire people of Asaba were looking forward to welcoming athletes, officials, sponsors, and spectators “to what promises to be a historic and memorable event”.
