The life of His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, the 14th Asagba of Asaba; has been described as one which epitomises excellence.
A former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and notable chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Rt. Hon Victor Ochei; made the remark at the reception to round off the platinum jubilee celebration of the highly revered traditional ruler.
Hon Ochei noted that from the Asagba’s secondary school days when he was Senior Prefect of the prestigious St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, to the University of Benin where he served as law lecturer and later Dean of the Faculty of Law, his focus, brilliance and intellectual capacity stood him out among equals.
The one-time Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services of NIMASA added that Asagba Prof Azinge’s track record in the legal profession was not without honours, having rising to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and serving as two-term Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.
He said the influential King brought honour to Nigeria as he remained the first African to have served as a Judge and the President of the Commonwealth Arbitral Tribunal.
Hon Ochei, who is also the President, Nigerian Tennis Federation, (NTF), expressed strong belief that the values the Asagba had brought to bear on the throne would usher in greater glory to the Asaba kingdom and prayed that his reign be calm, peaceful and prosperous.
