US President, Donald Trump, said on Saturday that he has asked the Defence Department to prepare for possible Military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians.
According to Reuters, Trump disclosed this in a statement on his Truth Social, after he, on Friday, designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over alleged Christian genocide.
In a fresh statement, the U.S. government said it would also immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria.
Trump said the U.S. may “very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing’, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities”, Trump said, according to Reuters.
DAILY POST reports that there have been a flurry of reactions from Nigerians after Trump designated Nigeria as a CPC.
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian government have, in separate statements, rejected Trump’s label.
