The Task Force arm of the Delta State Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association, (COMTOA), has warned individuals faking membership of the Task Force to desist or be prepared to bear the full weight of the law.
The Director General of the Taskforce, Comrade Chief Uchenna Okafor, gave the warning while interrogating a young man allegedly caught parading himself as a member of the Task Force around the Traffic Light Junction axis of Asaba.
Chief Okafor emphasized that it was illegal for anyone not authorized to perform the duties of the Task Force to engage in such duties, pointing out that there had been reports of the illegal activities of certain individuals faking membership of the Task Force, which prompted the action that led to the arrest of the impostor, now in custody.
He revealed that authorised members of the Task Force team all had their identity cards issued by the State Ministry of Transport, stressing that anyone without the ID card had no business with the Task Force.
The DG called on members of COMTOA to report anyone found illegally performing the duties of the Task Force to the team’s office on Summit road for immediate action or to the nearest police station.
This, he said, would help to distinguish legitimate operators from impostors and contribute to greater accountability and safety of passengers and residents across the state.
Reacting to the arrest of the impostor, the media representative of COMTOA, Engr. Meshack Ozoh, said the Taskforce members were trained to be on top of their job, saying that more of those infiltrating would be fished out and prosecuted.
He explained that the authorised Task Force members and the law enforcement agencies were working together to ensure smooth motorcycle and tricycle operations in the state.
The alleged impostor, Mr. Paul Enujeku, denied engaging in any illegal activity, claiming to be a registered member of the Task Force.
