Momentum of Waste Evacuation Increases in State Capital Territory, Other Parts of Delta

The Delta State Waste Management Board has stepped up the momentum of evacuating waste indiscriminately dumped within the State Capital Territory and other parts of the state.

The evacuation, which was supervised by Mr. Stephen Uwanabi on Saturday, focused on Koka junction, around the Kwale park, Asaba, along Okpanam median strips and the former dumpsite axis, on the Asaba – Benin expressway.

Mr Uwanabi told our reporter that the exercise was on the directive of the Executive Chairman of the Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema; who had vowed that the routine evacuation of waste must be sustained at all costs.

The supervisor said field workers of the Board were always on ground to tackle illegally dumped waste, with refuse disposal trucks readily available to take the garbage to the government approved dumpsite.

He noted that indiscriminate dumping of refuse had remained a menace in the major towns and cities of the state, even with the regular sensitization campaign to discourage the unwholesome practice, but stressed that the Board, under the watch of Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, was determined not to fail in the mandate of ensuring a cleaner and healthier Delta.

Mr Uwanabi appealed to residents of the state to be more friendly with the environment, take ownership of their immediate surroundings and register with government recognized Waste Managers, also known as Private Sector Participants (PSPs), as required by law.

The supervisor said parents should show good examples to their children and wards by letting them know that dumping waste indiscriminately remained a bad habit, so that they would not accept it as a normal practice, growing up.

He pointed out that it was not in error that environmental rejuvenation was built into the Realistic Reforms component of the Oborevwori administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, assuring that the Hon Edema-led Board would never be caught napping in the pursuit of its mandate.
