Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment to building the capacity of the youth to adequately prepare them for future leadership roles.
The Chief of Staff, Delta State Government House, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, made the commitment on Monday when a delegation of the Young Political Leadership School Africa – COHORT 12, paid him a courtesy visit.
Hon Erijo said from the inception of the Oborevwori administration, youth development and empowerment had been prioritized, explaining why a good number of them were appointed to the State Executive Council and other positions of authority in government.
He added that there were also numerous ICT and skills training opportunities for the youth across the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, all geared towards meaningfully engaging them to ensure not just an active youthful population, but also a productive one.
The Chief of Staff commended the Young Political Leadership School Africa for the leadership training programme, from which some Delta youths had benefitted, urging the alumni of the school to utilize the knowledge acquired to mentor others.
Hon Erijo thanked the institution for recognizing and appreciating the much the Oborevwori administration had done in capacity building and mentoring of Delta youths for leadership, promising that more of them would be sponsored to the programme in due course.
He expressed appreciation to the delegation for honoring the Governor with an award, assuring them that the recognition would not be taken for granted.
Earlier in her remarks, the Programme Manager of the Young Political Leadership School Africa and a Youth Adviser to the President of Liberia, Alphia Faith Kemokai, said the institution was a regional initiative contributing to the advancement of democracy and political governance across Africa youth capacity building.
She said they were in Delta to appreciate Governor Sheriff Oborevwori with an award for sponsoring a good number of youths to the leadership training programme of the school, which she noted showed the seriousness his administration attached to building the capacity of Delta youths.
