Odogwu Ahaba, (Warlord) of Asaba, Obi Nwanze Oduah, has celebrated the new yam festival, in his Umuonaje village, with his kith and kin.

Obi Oduah, a prominent Asaba red cap Chief, said the event followed the conclusion of the Eze-Ugbo festival and the celebration of the new yam festival by His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON.

He explained that all the 22 red cap Chiefs in Asaba celebrated same day, 22nd September, describing the event as an opportunity to thank God and the ancestors for the gift of life to witness another traditional calendar and the festivities contained therein.

The Odogwu re-echoed the need for the people, especially the younger ones, to go back to the land to give the new yam festival the respect and value it had in time past.

Obi Nwanze Oduah prayed over the yam, cut, sliced and ate of it with palm oil before the bowl of sliced yam was passed round for kinsmen, guests and friends present to have a taste.
