Individuals and organizations in Asaba have again been reminded that they are critical stakeholders in the affairs of the community.

His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, the 14th Asagba of Asaba, gave the reminder while receiving mattresses donated to the Asaba Drug Victims’ Rehabilitation Center by the Diamond Ladies Circle of Asaba.

Asagba Prof Azinge said the task of repositioning Asaba was not for the throne or Palace Chiefs, but for all sons and daughters of the town, adding that the contribution of Non Governmental Organizations would go a long way to facilitate the actualization of the vision of branding Asaba.

He commended the donors for their kind gesture, which he noted was targeted at caring for children of Asaba who had become victims of drug abuse and urged members of the Circle to not only lead advocacy against drug peddling, but also pray for the quick rehabilitation of the addicts.

The Asagba expressed the hope that the gesture would spur more organisations and individuals to follow suit, stressing that the welfare of Asaba people, including those addicted to drugs, remained his topmost priority.

The forward-looking traditional ruler assured the Diamond Ladies Circle that the mattresses would be put to good use and solicited more support for the Rehabilitation Center.

Earlier in an address, the President of the Circle, Mrs Anthonia Damatrus, commended Asagba Prof Azinge for his commitment to the well-being of Asaba people, describing his transformative agenda as quite remarkable.

Mrs Damatrus said the Circle was working on plans to rehabilitate the drug victims, especially the females among them, before the Asagba took the bold step, hence their decision to support the initiative in recognition of the importance of comfort and dignity to the healing process.

The ladies pledged continued support for the King’s vision of a healthier, more united and branded Asaba.
