Residents of Asaba have been urged to continue to sue for peace in the land to make it habitable for all.

The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, made the call when a delegation of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Asaba branch paid him a courtesy visit.

Asagba Prof Azinge emphasized that peace remained the only industry needed in Asaba because it had continued to attract people from different parts of the country, including investors.

He said, “Continue to join us in sueing for peace in this land because that is the foundation of all that is happening around us. Asaba is growing in lips and bounds, and I often state that Asaba, for me today, is the fastest growing state capital not just in Nigeria, but in Africa south of the Sahara. We’ve all made it possible.

“One thing I can say about non indigenes, including your people, is that they believe in Asaba and they’ve invested so much here. You see people building here and there, which is good. If you don’t find favour here you won’t invest in the land, so it means that you have shown that you believe in our land and we encourage you.

“For me the only industry we need in Asaba is peace. Peace will continue to make Asaba an investors’ haven and that’s why people from all parts of Nigeria are coming in on a daily basis in their numbers because of the peace that reigns supreme in our land.

“That’s why I will never tolerate anything that will disrupt the peace in our land because when there is peace, every other good thing will follow. And that is why we go out of our way to reason out of the box to get involved in what ordinarily should be the sphere of influence of government because we have come to the realization that it is not everything that should be left for government”.

The First Class monarch said be also believed that the welfare of the people should be a priority, pointing out, however, that the branding of Asaba was topmost in his agenda because he came in at a time the town was notoriously regarded as the headquarters of yahoo yahoo, which was not a good badge for the capital city to wear.

The Asagba thanked UPU Asaba branch for the visit, which he noted symbolized good neighborliness and clearly defined the group as a critical stakeholder in the affairs of the community.

He also thanked the leader of the group for the kind sentiments he expressed in his remarks and promised to remain committed to purposeful leadership on the throne in order to continually enjoy the support, trust and confidence of Asaba people.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Chairman, UPU Asaba branch, Olorogun Austin Akpede, who said the Urhobos in Asaba considered themselves as subjects to the Asagba, thanked His Royal Majesty for the positive things happening in Asaba in less than one year he ascended the throne, especially the significant improvement in electricity supply, saying that it was a good omen for the Asaba kingdom and an indication of better days ahead.

Olorogun Akpede acknowledged the hospitality of Asaba people, the blessings the community had brought to residents, especially non indigenes, the reign of peace in the land, and appreciated the Asagba for his purposeful and result-driven leadership, while pledging the loyalty of the group to the king.
