Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening the workforce through the training and retraining of civil servants to equip them with the necessary skills for increased productivity.

The State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, made the commitment while declaring open a one-day workshop on “Understanding the MORE Agenda in Policy Implementation”, for civil servants on SGL 15 – 17 in the Delta State civil service, organized by the Office of the Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, in Asaba.
The Deputy Governor said the workshop was expected to avail the officers the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and to apply same in ways that enhanced government operations and service delivery.

He noted that the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration was carefully designed to deliver optimal governance to the people and prepare the state for future challenges, describing the theme of the workshop as not only relevant but timely.
Sir Onyeme stated that learning was a continuous process and not carrying on with it was tantamount to decline in productivity, even as he commended the Office of the Senior Policy Adviser for the initiative, while expressing confidence that the resource persons selected to speak were seasoned professionals in their respective fields.

“To the participants, your presence here is not enough; I urge you to pay close attention to the lectures; you are expected not only to acquire new knowledge but to apply it in ways that enhance government operations and service delivery.
“As participants, you should be ambassadors of this knowledge by sharing it with your colleagues.

“I encourage you to participate actively and become true agents of the MORE Agenda, working together to give Deltans more”, he stated.
In a welcome address, the Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Chief Funkekeme Solomon, said understanding the M.0.R.E. Agenda in policy implementation underscored the importance of adopting a collective approach to policy formulation and implementation with the objective of achieving desired results.

He noted that the civil servants and other vision helpers needed to understand the MORE Agenda and to be carried along for it to succeed.
According to him; “while the essence of government lies in the structures and institutions that exercise authority and make decisions for a society, governance encompasses the processes and practices through which those decisions are made and implemented”.
Also in her remarks, the State Head of Service, Dr. Minimim Oseji, asserted that policy implementation in terms of human capital development, should not be limited to just training and retraining of officials.
Mrs Oseji called for ways to evaluate such training in order to ensure that issues of attitudinal change, absenteeism, ghost workers, age falsification, as well as lateness to work by public servants were addressed and the training impactful.
The event featured a lecture on “Expository on the MORE Agenda”, by the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga and another on “Identification and Review of Government Policies and Alignment with the MORE Agenda by a Development Consultant, Augusta Impact Kenenboh, among other activities.
