Asagba Prof Azinge Praises Asaba Youths for Aligning With His Reformative Agenda

Asaba youths have been applauded for their burning desire for sweeping reforms in the socioeconomic life of the community.

The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, FNIALS, while playing host to members of Ofu Obi Age Grade in his Palace, noted that the average contemporary Asaba youth had become increasingly interested in the affairs of the community than was the case in the past.

Asagba Prof Azinge expressed delight that the youths were on the same page with him on branding Asaba and waging war against cultism and drug peddling, which had tended to give the peaceful community bad press.

His Royal Majesty highlighted the steps he had taken to reposition Asaba since he ascended the throne, citing his visit to the satellite towns to affirm control of the areas, with the appointment of Anya Asagbas, the operation know your tenants, banning of the activities of Eze Nwanyi, donation of chairs, desks and books to schools, amongst others.

He pointed out that he had also introduced reforms to some cultures and traditions of the community to make them more appealing to the younger generation and encourage the promotion of the cultural identity and heritage of the Asaba kingdom.

The Asagba emphasised that the task of rebuilding Asaba, which he reiterated remained the fastest growing state capital, not only in Nigeria, but also in Africa, south of the Sahara, was the collective responsibility of all sons and daughters of the land, stressing that no one should be left out.

The highly revered and influential traditional ruler thanked the Age Grade for the visit and for contributing to the permanent palace building project, promising to look into the concerns raised by the group, for the greater good of the community.

The leader of the 1981-1983 Age Grade, Ogbueshi Adim Nwokolo, had, in his remarks, congratulated Asagba Prof Azinge on his ascension to the throne, appreciating him for incorporating the satellite towns in the scheme of things, the recent call on the Federal Government to rehabilitate the dilapidated Asaba-Benin expressway, amongst others.

Ogbueshi Nwokolo expressed concerns about the menace of cultism and drug peddling in Asaba, the use of the internal roads by heavy duty vehicles due to the failed portions of the Asaba – Benin expressway, amongst others, pledging the group’s support in addressing the issues.
