Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has promised not to take the support of the Ndokwa nation for him and his administration for granted.
He made the promise on Sunday in Kwale at the inauguration of the new executive of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU).
The Governor, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, appreciated the continued support of Ndokwa people for him, especially their contribution to his electoral victory in 2023.
He said he would not forget Ndokwa people in a hurry for giving him a very loyal and committed son of theirs as his Deputy, with whom he had kept faith with the delivery of his administration’s mandate in the past two years.
Governor Oborevwori said his love for the Ndokwa nation was not in doubt, assuring the people that his administration’s attention to the area had just begun, as more development initiatives would be rolled out in due course.
The Governor congratulated the new NNU executive, with Comrade Chief Amechi Asugwuni as President, on their emergence and inauguration and urged them to live above board and consolidate the achievements of the immediate past executive.
He reminded Comrade Asugwuni of the enormous responsibility his new position had placed on his shoulders, encouraged him to brace up for break throughs and assured him of government’s support for the apex sociocultural organization.
In his remarks on the occasion, the immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, thanked the new executive for recognizing that power belonged to God with the thanksgiving that took place earlier in the day at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Cornerstone Province 24, Kwale.
While charging the new NNU executive to commit to humility and hard work, Senator Okowa commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for completing the Asaba – Ughelli road dualization project, the Kwale – Beneku bridge and for awarding the N29 billion Aboh – Akarai road project, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area.
Also speaking, the member representing the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon Nnamdi Ezechi, said the future was bright for the Ndokwa nation with sons and daughters with sterling leadership qualities and abundant natural resources.
Hon Ezechi expressed confidence that the Amechi Asugwuni – led executive would take the NNU and indeed the Ndokwa nation to greater heights, promising to continue to make the collective voice of Ndokwa people to be heard at all times in the National Assembly.
In his address, the President General of NNU, Comrade Chief Amechi Asugwuni, said the new executive had adopted a 13-point agenda as a foundation blueprint, visited traditional rulers and Clean Presidents to seek support and deepen grassroots collaboration, as well as held strategic meetings with host communities to encourage them to support engagements with oil and gas companies operating in Ndokwa land.
Comrade Asugwuni stated that the apex union remained purposefully committed to initiating and driving collaborative engagements that would yield tangible and visible development across Ndokwa land with the Delta State Government and appreciated former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his pivotal role in bringing Ndokwa sons and daughters closer to government, citing the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme and DESOPADEC MD, Chief Festus Ochonogor.
