Ibusa Youth Council Condemns Undue Interference With Its Electoral Process, Urges Gov. Oborevwori to Intervene

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been urged to intervene in the crisis rocking the Ibusa Youth Council following the construction and inauguration of an illegal interim committee for the youth body by the Obuzor of Ibusa, His Royal Majesty, Obi Prof Chelunor Nwoboshi.

Addressing a press conference in Asaba on Wednesday, the Secretary General of the Youth Council, Amb. Vincent Ollimah, said the inauguration of the interim committee was in violation of the Constitution of the Ibusa Youth Council, the electoral guidelines of the Delta State Ministry of Youth and a subsisting court order.

Amb. Ollimah stated that section 13 of the Constitution of the Ibusa Youth Council and the Delta State Ministry Of Youth electoral guidelines empowered only the out-going Youth President to constitute an Electoral Committee to independently oversee the election of new officers for the youth body.

The Ibusa Youth Council accused the Obuzor of Ibusa, His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Chelunor Nwoboshi and the Oshimili North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, of abuse of power, undue interference and manipulation of its constitutional electoral process by illegally hand picking members of an illegal Interim Youth Committee headed by the Obuzor’s personal aide, whereas the Obuzor, by the provision of Section 12 of the Youth Council’s Constitution, could only act in an advisory capacity.

Amb. Ollimah said the youth body had petitioned the State Ministry of Youth, through its lawyer, B.O Okoji, over the inauguration of the illegal Interim Committee by the Obuzor of Ibusa, but the petition was ignored by the Commissioner, who instead hosted the illegal Interim Committee in his office and also allegedly pledged support for the illegality, while denying the 

EXCO of the Youth Council access to his office when they sought audience with him to clarify issues regarding the illegal imposition of the interim youth committee.

The Youth Council urged the Obuzor of Ibusa and the Oshimili North Local Government Chairman to respect the right of the outgoing President of the body to constitute an Electoral Committee, and obey the Court injunction restraining them from setting up the Interim Committee, to avoid a break down of law and order in Ibusa.
