Daughters of Asaba origin, also know as ‘Umu Ada’, have been commended for their role in the sociocultural growth and development of the community.
The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN,OON, gave the commendation at an interactive session with Umu Ada of Isieke village, also know as Umu Ada Onishe, at the palace ground on Monday.
He noted that though it seemed like the women were lagging behind in the role assigned to them in the community by the forebears, their mission to the palace showed that they were still in touch with their critical responsibility of ensuring peace, unity and progress in their ancestral home.
The Asagba thanked Umu Ada Onishe for their concern about the threat to peace and unity in Isieke village, as well as Obi Patrick Onochie Oduma for following up on efforts to settle deep rooted grievances and acrimony in the village.
Asagba Prof Azinge pointed out that he was not in conflict with, nor bore grudges against anyone in Isieke, including those who contested the throne with him, revealing that some of them had been relating well with him and were currently serving in some of the Committees he had constituted.
The traditional ruler of no mean repute, who acknowledged that few of the aggrieved contestants were in Court, emphasized that it was high time they retraced their steps, put the matter behind them and work with him to promote peace and unity in Asaba and take the culture and tradition of the land to enviable heights.
His Royal Majesty said he was in support of the move by the women to wade into the matter, promising to endorse any decision made in that regard.
Obi Patrick Onochie Oduma, of Isieke village, who accompanied the Umu Ada to the palace, thanked the Asagba for his willingness to have the issues resolved and commended the women for their interest in peace and unity in Isieke.
The leader of the women, Mrs Nwokobia Felicia, and others who spoke, expressed concern about the fragile peace in Isieke village, which they assured that they were prepared to wade into and address.
They expressed appreciation to Asagba Prof Azinge for the steps he had so far taken to reposition Asaba for greatness, stressing that peace and unity were crucial to a successful reign, and that was their wish for the highly respected King.
