The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, had warned that criminal elements will not be allowed to constitute a threat to peace in Asaba.

Asagba Prof Azinge gave the warning while speaking during a Sallah visit to him by a delegation of the Arewa community in Asaba.

He said though Asaba had became a preferred dwelling place to many non indigenes, persons with questionable character and no visible means of livelihood would not be allowed to threaten the peace of the land with their nefarious activities.

His Majesty recalled that he visited some locations in Asaba recently, including the popular Koka Junction, where he saw many young men of northern extraction with no fixed addressses nor means of livelihood and ordered that they be evacuated to the residence of the Sarki at Cable Point.

The Asagba told the delegation that he got a report that the young men were still there in their numbers, and expressed concern about their continued stay under the flyover, even as he appreciated the efforts of the Anya Asagba and the Sarki in restoring sanity to Cable Point.

He, therefore, urged the Sarki to take full control of the beggars and street boys from the northern part of the country, as any of them caught under the Koka flyover or any other location within Asaba would be arrested and prosecuted.

Asagba Prof Azinge noted that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had taken a firm stance on the issue of security in Asaba and other parts of the state, and had directed Council Chairmen and traditional rulers to ensure peace and security in their areas and domains, stressing that drug abuse and cultism, which were common in Asaba, would be fought head on.

The First Class traditional ruler thanked the Arewa community for the visit and congratulated them on the successful celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, while assuring that they would continue to enjoy the hospitality of the community so long as they remained committed to peaceful coexistence.

Earlier, the Sarki of Arewa community in Delta State, Alh. Ibrahim Babagero, said the visit was to pay Sallah homage to the Asagba and to thank him for the peace members of the community were enjoying in Asaba and the blessings the land had bestowed on them for decades they had lived in the town.

The Sarki told Asagba Prof Azinge that sanity had returned to Cable Point since after His Royal Majesty’s visit to the area and thanked the Anya Asagba in the area, Ogbueshi Wing Commander Peter Iweze, rtd, for his role in that regard.
