Executive Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Inter-Party Relations, Chief Josiah Efe Tobor, has expressed delight with the performance of the Governor in the area of youth development and empowerment.
Appraising the Governor’s two years in office in a statement he issued in Asaba on Thursday, Chief Efe Tobor said to expand beneficiaries of D-CARES Programme from 36,000 when he assumed office in 2023 to over 260,000 two years after was no mean feat.
He added that the Women Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Programme (WESAP), Working Fingers Initiative, MORE Grants Scheme, MORE Biz-Up Programme, and the Widows Welfare Scheme were also targeted at creating jobs and cushioning the effect of the current economic challenges on the people, including Persons With Disabilities.
The Governor’s aide said the health sector also received the attention of government with the renovation, upgrade, and re-equipping of about 150 Primary Healthcare Centres and 64 General Hospitals, which earned the state the $400,000 Bill and Melinda Gates PHC award for outstanding performance in Primary Healthcare Management.
Chief Efe Tobor applauded the Governor for the infrastructure upgrade of the state-owned Southern Delta University, University of Delta, Agbor, and Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba while over 30,000 students of Delta State origin were paid bursary.
On Economic growth, he noted that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has grown significantly to over N150 billion annually due to judicious application of resources to development projects which tended to encourage the people to voluntarily pay their taxes.
The EA stated that with the recent political realignment in the state, Deltans should expect more development in the years ahead.
