The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, on Monday, paid an unscheduled visit to the state-owned Model Technical College, Asaba.

The King, who was accompanied by some Palace Chiefs and personal aides, said he only got to know about the school of recent and decided to go and see things for himself.

He commended the state government for establishing such a massive institution with state – of – the – art facilities in his kingdom, but regretted that not much was known about the College in the public space.

Asagba Prof Azinge, therefore, called on the relevant authorities, especially the State Ministry of Technical Education, to sensitize the public on the importance of vocational education as a solution to the high rate of unemployment in the county.

After interacting with the school authority, the Asagba noted that Asaba, the host community, was highly underserved and insisted that local content and catchment area factors should be given due consideration in staff recruitment and admission policy.

He said it would not be right for him to sit on the throne and watch the benefits flowing from the school elude his people, especially the young ones, stressing that the community must take full advantage of the institution.

The highly revered and influential traditional ruler and his entourage were received on arrival and conducted round the school facilities by the Principal, Mrs Violet Uwuijaren, and some staff members.
