The police in Kano State have arrested one Saudat Jibrin, a newly wed bride, for allegedly stabbing her husband, Salisu Idris, to death just nine days after their wedding.
The tragic incident reportedly occured in Farawa community of Kano on Monday night, days after the couple’s wedding on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Reports by a local radio station revealed that the marriage was arranged by relatives of the couple but lacked mutual affection between both parties.
According to report, the deceased had initially expressed reservations about the union but was reportedly persuaded by family members to go ahead with the marriage.
Although the circumstances surrounding their dispute leading to the death remained unclear, community members alleged that Saudat might have poisoned her husband before stabbing him during an argument.
Tensions flared in the community as angry youths attempted to lynch the suspect but prompt intervention by security operatives prevented mob action as the suspect was taken into custody.
Confirming the tragic incident, the Kano State Police Command announced on Monday that it had apprehended one Saudat Jibril, an 18-year-old female resident of Farawa Quarters, for allegedly cutting the throat of her husband, Salisu Idris.
A statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, issued in Kano, said the suspect allegedly cut the throat of her husband, Salisu Idris, a 30-year-old male, with a sharp knife.
He said upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Ibrahim Bakori, swiftly deployed a team of detectives to the scene.
Kiyawa said the victim was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death.
The spokesperson assured the public of their commitment to conducting thorough investigations to ensure that justice was served.
Kiyawa added: “The command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station”.
