The member representing the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Nnamdi Ezechi, has condemned, in very strong terms, the arrest of Mr Martins Otse popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Martins Otse was arrested on May 2, 2025, over allegation of cyberstalking the Guarantee Trust Bank, Abuja.
VDM was said to have visited the bank, where he complained about alleged unauthorized deduction of funds from his mother’s account.
Ezechi, who described the arrest as oppressive, called on the Nigerian Police authorities to prioritize professionalism in the discharge of their constitutional duties, saying that the police would have invited him professionally as a law abiding citizen of Nigeria than applying a gestapo approach.
“I, Hon Nnamdi Ezechi vehemently condemn the arrest of Very Dark Man at the Guarantee Trust Bank, Abuja.
“The Very Dark Man I know is not a criminal, and should not be treated as such”, he said.
The lawmaker, who called for VDM’s immediate release, advised banks, especially GTB management, to always protect their customers’ privacy.
Ezechi said it was unethical for banks to disclose informations about movement or privacy of their customers, especially law abiding customers like VDM.
According to him, VDM is a Human Rights Activist who fights for the rights of oppressed and common people in the society.
