The umbrella body of registered political parties, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Delta State chapter, has described the recent defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other leaders, stakeholders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State as democracy in action.
Briefing newsmen in Asaba, the State Chairman of the Council, Prince Henry Eze, said the decision of the Governor and the entire PDP structure to move was right under the circumstances the party found itself.
Prince Eze, who is the State Chairman of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), stated that no right thinking politician would want to remain in a crisis – ridden political party, especially with the 2027 elections fast approaching, stressing that the electoral fortunes of PDP had taken a plunge following the party’s lingering leadership tussle at the national level.
He said Governor Oborevwori’s strategic alignment with the Tinubu administration was expected to attract federal projects and investments to Delta State, noting that recent collaborations involving key federal officials, including the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, were indicative of a promising future for the state.
While affirming its confidence in Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, Delta IPAC pledged to support efforts that enhanced the state’s development, insisting that the
Governor’s desire to collaborate with the Tinubu administration was for the benefit of Deltans.
Prince Eze urged Governor Oborevwori to sustain his administration’s inclusive, youth-friendly, gender-sensitive, approach to governance, adding that a healthy balance between former PDP stakeholders and original APC members would be critical to preserving unity.
IPAC urged all stakeholders to prioritize Delta State’s development over personal ambitions, especially ahead of the 2027 political season, emphasizing that the state’s political journey must be guided by maturity, dialogue, and cooperation.
