Oborevwori Commends OFAAC for Sustaining Annual Cultural Festival in Anioma Nation

The Organisation for the Advancement of Anioma Culture (OFAAC) on Easter Monday celebrated its 2025 cultural day with various activities to showcase the culture of the people of Anioma nation.

They included cultural dances, traditional wrestling, fluting competition and an exhibition of cultural artifacts, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, the State Governor, Rt. Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori, noted that OFAAC had remained dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Anioma culture since it was founded over two decades ago.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, commended the leadership of OFAAC for sustaining the annual cultural festival, and urged sons and daughters of Anioma to uphold their cultural heritage and create a unique identity for themselves.

He urged traditional rulers to continually preach peace within their kingdoms, emphasizing that violence was counterproductive to development.

Governor Oborevwori reiterated that the state government prioritized peace and security, as part of the core pillars of the MORE Agenda, adding that Deltans were not known for violence but as industrious and hardworking people.

He expressed gratitude to Anioma people for their unwavering support before, during, and after the election that brought him to office and urged them to continue to support his administration.

The Governor assured that his administration would not abandon any inherited project in Anioma land and pledged that all ongoing and new projects initiated by his administration would be completed.

In his welcome address, the President of OFAAC, Arc. Kester Ifeadi, revealed plans to establish an Anioma Heritage Home, a museum to house cultural artifacts and preserve Anioma history for future generations.

Arc. Ifeadi stated that the annual cultural fiesta, which began in 2003, was focused on preserving, promoting, advancing, and developing the cultural identity of the Anioma people.

He highlighted OFAAC’s microcredit scheme, designed to provide soft loans, especially to farmers, and its annual lecture series aimed at uniting the Anioma people and fostering cultural consciousness.

At the event, which took place at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, the Obi of Owa Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, was conferred with the title of Grand Patron of OFAAC, while the immediate past Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, was named Patron for their contributions to the advancement of Anioma culture.

The highlight of the celebration was the presentation of awards to winners of various competitions by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, alongside other dignitaries.

The event was attended by the immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, some members of the Delta State Executive Council, a retinue of traditional rulers from Delta North, including the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN; Local Government Chairmen and various cultural groups from across the Anioma nation.
