The 14th Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, FNIALS, has said the ongoing renewal of allegiance by the Palace Chiefs and Ogbueshis is not a punitive measure.

Asagba Prof Azinge made the clarification when the Adolor of Ahaba, Chief Victor Ijeh, took his turn in the allegiance renewal.

He explained that the allegiance of the Chiefs was originally to the 13th Asagba and they needed to renew same allegiance to his administration for the records.

The Asagba further pointed out that the exercise did not amount to any doubt, whatsoever, to the loyalty and allegiance of the Chiefs, but to ensure they aligned with the new dispensation.

While saying that the renewal of allegiance was also a good way to ensure a cordial relationship between the 14th Asagba of Asaba and the Chiefs, Asagba Prof Azinge added that the exercise would help to promote unity and cohesion in the land.

The traditional ruler, of no mean repute, congratulated Chief Victor Ijeh for taking a queue to do what his colleagues had done and commended him for his contributions to the growth and development of Asaba and humanity.

Asagba Prof Azinge enjoined all title holders in Asaba to respect the hierarchy of the various traditional institutions, insisting that every title holder must accord respect to anyone superior to him in the system, irrespective of age.

Earlier, after subscribing to the Oath of Allegiance administered by the Onihe of Asaba, Chief Ubaka Atu, the Adolor, Chief Victor Ijeh, pledged loyalty to Asagba Prof Azinge, assuring him that he would continue to support the development of the community.
