Delta State Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Sunday Tatabuzogwu, has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the signing of the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Bill into law.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tatabuzogwu described the milestone as a significant stride under the Governor’s MORE Agenda, noting that the new law provided the legal framework for Delta State to establish and manage its own independent power network, separate from the national grid.

According to him, the Law paved the way for stable and affordable electricity supply across the state, thereby addressing one of the key developmental challenges faced by businesses and households.

“In line with the MORE Agenda, this breakthrough will attract industrial growth and create massive employment opportunities for our teeming youths, as more industries are expected to invest in the state due to improved power infrastructure”, he said.

The Commissioner added that the law would also boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state and accelerate socio-economic development across all sectors.

He emphasized that the new legal framework empowered the Delta State Government to effectively regulate all power sector operators within the state — from generation to transmission and distribution — ensuring improved service delivery to end users.

Tatabuzogwu expressed profound gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his visionary leadership and commitment to delivering on his campaign promises through the formulation of transformative policies such as the Electricity and Power Sector Law.

He further revealed that plans were underway to convene stakeholders’ meetings, preparatory to implementing the provisions of the new law and commencing its journey toward energy independence and sustainability.
