Residents of Asaba have been reminded that the Koka Junction Interchange/Flyover is designed to boost the aesthetics of the state capital, and should not be littered with waste.

The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, while speaking on the filthy condition of the multi-billion naira facility, noted that persons illegally trading under the flyover, were largely responsible.

Hon Edema wondered why any responsible individual would deliberately litter the environment without considering the implications of his or her action, describing it as unpatriotic and unlawful.

He, however, said the Board would continue to sweep and evacuate waste from around the flyover, as was the case on Tuesday, and from other parts of the State Capital Territory, in pursuit of its mandate to ensure a cleaner Delta.

The Board Chairman pointed out that the field operations staff of the establishment were fully on ground for prompt evacuation of waste and litters, adding that where there was need for more hands labourers would continue to be hired.

Hon Edema stressed that the Board would continue to sensitize the public on the need to imbibe best environmental habits, register with the waste managers, acquire waste bins and pay the prescribed monthly bill for the prompt evacuation of their domestic waste.
